Though I love to share, sometimes people cross the line. Some folks that have been posting to the forums on other sites have been using the avatar images from this site and wasting my bandwidth. This is known as leeching and is pretty friggin' rude to do. There is no credit for the image, no "please" and certainly no "thank you"s... just what seems to be the assumption that I have some beefy server on a fat pipe at a hosting company. If I did have that, there wouldn't be a problem. Too bad I'm on DSL using a box I made and administer myself.
When it was just a couple of people, I didn't mind. Now that it's a bunch of them on a bunch of different sites, it has to stop. My log files are full of requests for little images, the bandwidth used by my site ($$$) is getting wasted and nobody ever even bothered to ask. I used a little script-fu to prevent the image they think they're getting from showing. Instead they see the following:
Thanks for playing, but I'm just a little guy. If I could afford to share the avatars with everyone, I would.
